Chris Conroy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of New Haven.  Prior to arriving at the University of New Haven, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the the University of Connecticut’s Department of Marine Sciences working with Dr. Peter Auster on the Long Island Sound Mapping initiative.  Chris received his Ph.D. in Marine and Environmental Sciences from Northeastern University in 2016, working with Dr. Jon Grabowksi. His dissertation research investigated phenotypic and behavioral diversity in Gulf of Maine Atlantic cod in the context of well-defined benthic habitats, and developed predictive habitat suitability models for Atlantic cod within the Cashes Ledge Closed Area. While pursuing his doctorate, Chris also worked on an essential fish habitat (EFH) mapping project funded by the Nature Conservancy as part of their Mapping Ocean Wealth initiative, updating EFH definitions and map representations for a number of Gulf of Maine groundfish species. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, Chris received an M.S. in Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science in 2012, working with Dr. Dave Secor at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory to identify partial migration in young-of-the-year striped bass. Chris earned his B.S. in Biology from Emory University in 2001, then worked in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries before beginning his career in Marine Ecology.
