Karen’s research uses a social-ecological systems perspective to understand anthropogenic actions and their consequences for social and ecological communities. Spanning terrestrial to marine systems, broad geographic patterns identified using remote sensing and GIS are followed up with field experiments and stakeholder engagement to determine how anthropogenic activities are altering community composition at multiple trophic levels and the provision of ecosystem services.
